Responsibilities

The range of services and amenities provided by Local Councils varies enormously but all contribute to the primary roles of the Council which are to:

  • improve and maintain local services and facilities
  • support local voluntary organisations and activities
  • influence and lobby on local development and services

Holmes Chapel Parish Council operates a committee system which enables members to consider more complex issues in some detail at committee level. Each committee has a Chairman who has been nominated and voted for by his/her councillor colleagues. In addition, the Council appoints task groups which enable members to progress issues outside formal meetings.

Recommendations from committees and task groups are presented to the full Council for approval (or otherwise). Decisions are founded on majority vote from all councillors present at the meeting at which the decision is made.

The council has two principal committees which meet every 4 weeks. These are as follows:

  • Finance & General Purposes Committee
  • Planning Committee

Further detail regarding the role of each committee can be found on our Council Structure page.

The full Council meets every 4 weeks.

Agenda for each meeting are issued a minimum of three clear working days before the meeting is due to take place.

Unless noted otherwise in the agenda, all meetings from January 2007 will be held at Holmes Chapel Library commencing at 7.30pm (Finance & General Purposes - 8.00pm).

Members of the public may attend any or all meetings unless otherwise advertised.
