About this consultation

Holmes Chapel Parish Council and its project partners are exploring the possibility of creating a BMX pump track in the village and expanding the existing skate park facility. We want your views and thoughts to help guide us in this project.

The proposed pump track would be free to use and designed to provide a safe, welcoming, and accessible outdoor space for people of all ages. Suitable for bikes, scooters, and adaptive cycles, it would encourage physical activity, support wellbeing, and offer a positive place for people to meet, have fun, and enjoy being active outdoors.

Why are we considering a pump track in Holmes Chapel?

• More activities for the young people of our community to be active.

• Free outdoor recreation

• Supports health and wellbeing

• Accessible for a range of ages and abilities

• No similar facility within the local area, the nearest others are 10+ miles away

 

What is a BMX pump track?

• A purpose-built, surfaced cycling track.

• Suitable for a wide range of ages and abilities.

• Used by bikes, scooters, and adaptive cycles.…not just BMX!

• Designed for informal, recreational use.

Who could use the facility?

The proposed pump track would be free to access and designed to prioritise safety, accessibility, and shared use for:

• Children and young people aged 2-3 upwards

• Families

• Adults

• Beginners through to more confident riders

• Inclusive use, including adaptive cycles

 

Location and design

The current proposal is to build the pump track at the Community Centre. This is an ideal location as Everybody can oversee the site and it complements the existing skate park. We are considering placing the pump track either at the end of the field adjacent to the existing skate park or the other side closer to the community centre buildings depending on what is most feasible.

In terms of design and construction, the pump track will require minimal maintenance and be suitable for year-round use with an asphalt track surface.
