Today we are celebrating 10 years of the Holmes Chapel Community Centre!
10 years ago, Holmes Chapel Parish Council Parish Council bought the Community Centre on behalf of our residents and signed an agreement with Everybody Health and Leisure (EHL) to operate it. To purchase the Community Centre was a huge decision for the Parish Council, but the positive impact it has on the village has made it so worthwhile. So many people came together and worked diligently to make it happen and we are grateful for all their hard work.
For the last 10 years the Parish Council and EHL have closely worked together to ensure the centre provides real community-based facilities alongside the gym and fitness classes. This has included the installation of a skate park, which is of great benefit to the young people in the village.
It’s not just a gym! The centre provides a wide range of opportunities for community use. These opportunities include ‘Stay and Play’ for toddlers and guardians, Sport & Social for over 50s, a monthly Lunch Club offering a 2 course lunch with tea and coffee, and summer afternoon teas every month. Family fun days have also been organised as part of the Summer Celebration weekend which have been a huge success. The centre also offers health and lifestyle support through falls prevention and balance classes, mobility and strength classes, weight management and a healthy lifestyle programme, plus support to stop smoking. The site offers themed events such as Halloween Parties, Wreath Making sessions, monthly sound bath sessions, in addition to being able to hire out the meeting rooms for private events and celebrations.
We are delighted that Padel Courts will soon be installed at the site, which combined with recent refurbishment to the changing rooms will be a fantastic addition to the community centre offering. In January, a Youth Club will begin on Thursday nights at the Community Centre, which will be another great offering for our village.
It has been a real privilege to have worked alongside Everybody Health & Leisure for the last 10 years to provide this wonderful asset for the community. Special thanks especially to Tom Barton (CEO of EHL), Kerry O'Shea (Deputy CEO) and in particular Jade Stone, Manager of the Community Centre, and all her team for working so hard to make the Community Centre a fantastic facility for this village.
To mark this special occasion there are some community events taking place over the weekend:
Saturday 29th November 10.30am - 1pm Family Fun morning with bouncy castle, arts & crafts, face painting etc....
Sunday 30th November 8am - 5pm - Fitness Fun Day
Why not come down to the Community Centre and see just what it has to offer. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, and will be happy to talk to you about all that goes on!
