Reclaim the Pavements – Help Us Keep Our Pavements Clear
For the past three years, Holmes Chapel Parish Council has been carrying out a village-wide survey of pavements, hedges and vegetation to help make sure our footpaths remain accessible to everyone.
We are particularly looking for places where hedges or other vegetation are encroaching onto the pavement, leaving less than 1 metre of clear pavement width, as well as trees or vegetation that are obscuring streetlights.
Where we identify an issue, the Parish Council contacts the relevant household or landowner to ask them to cut back the vegetation. We also report issues to Cheshire East Council and other relevant organisations where appropriate.
We are delighted that each year we have needed to contact fewer households. This is a great result and we would like to thank everyone who has responded to our previous letters and cut back their hedges and vegetation.
Keeping pavements clear is important for all residents, but particularly for people using wheelchairs, mobility aids or pushchairs, who may otherwise be forced into the road or have difficulty getting past an obstruction.
Parish Council representatives are once again walking the streets of Holmes Chapel to check for overgrown hedges and vegetation.
If your hedge or trees are growing over the pavement, why not make a head start and cut them back now? With the main bird nesting season coming to an end, this is a good time to check your boundaries and make sure your vegetation isn't obstructing the footpath or highway.
