A tribute to Les Gilbert

Updated: May 2, 2023

The Parish Council was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our Ward Councillor Les Gilbert on Tuesday 18th April 2023.

Cllr Gilbert served the residents of Holmes Chapel and the wider Dane Valley ward with dedication, passion, and commitment. He served as a Cheshire East Councillor from 2008 until his passing in 2023 and was a member of our Parish Council from 2009 to 2011. He worked tirelessly on behalf of our residents to seek improvements to the village and was never afraid to challenge Cheshire East when required.

Cllr Gilbert was also part of our Strategic Planning Task Group and played an instrumental role in developing the current Neighbourhood Plan and, more recently, with the task group to review and revise it. His contributions were a great source for shaping our thoughts and direction on planning matters. His support for the parish council in planning matters was also very welcome and to the point.

He was also very involved in the Village Volunteers – giving hours of his time to keep the village looking it's best for the benefit of all residents.

Cllr Gilbert was a great person to work with. He showed kindness, compassion, consideration, and diligence in all that he did, and he was always prepared to listen.

We send our deepest condolences to his partner and all his family. He will be greatly missed and may he rest in peace.

The memorial service for Les is for immediate family only. However, a tribute page has been set up for anyone to share their thoughts and memories of him. This can be accessed by clicking the following link:
