Holmes Chapel Parish Council was delighted to invite representatives from local community groups, organisations and businesses to our Civic Service held at St Luke's Church on Sunday 28th September. Canon Rob McLaren led the service.
The aim of the Civic Service is to celebrate all that is good about our village and honour the many 'unsung heroes' who, through their hard work and diligence, make such a difference to our community. The service began with the Chair, Cllr Diane Tams, warmly welcoming attendees. We were then delighted that one of our Youth Councillors, Jess, read one of the Bible readings. Canon Rob McLaren gave a sermon which focused on Jesus's call to 'love your enemies', a message that is very pertinent in these times of division and conflict. The service finished with the singing of the National Anthem.
Attendees were invited to St Luke's Church hall for tea, coffee and cakes. It was lovely to meet so many people doing such great work for our community and we look forward to hosting our Civic Service again next year!
