Communicare - The Future?

‘Communicare’ - (Holmes Chapel & Area Christian Communicare) - was founded in 1981 as a Caring & Transport service, and until suspension owing to Covid, its Volunteer Drivers carried local residents, who had no other means of travel, to medical and related appointments. In the last full year of operation, its 70 drivers carried out 1300 journeys.

Many of the drivers and organisers are well into their 70s or 80s, and a significant number have underlying health problems themselves. The enforced suspension in March 2020 gave time for reflection, and, after many years of service, some of the key organisers and drivers decided that it was time to retire and hand over the reins to the next generation.

Appeals in the press and elsewhere, last year, for new younger volunteers to come forward and take over the organisation produced little response.

As a result, the decision was taken to call an Extraordinary General Meeting, when relaxation of Covid measures allowed, to formally close down the organisation.

The date for this EGM is: Thursday Sept 2nd at 7.30pm in St Luke’s Church Hall, Holmes Chapel.

Although this will be an EGM for members there will be a warm welcome for anyone who may have an interest taking on some form of continuation of the organisation and its service to the local community.
