New play area in Strathmore Close

The Parish Council was pleased to fund a play area for the land off Strathmore Close in partnership with the National Lottery.

The original developer had planned to create a play area in that location, but it never happened due to finances. That this land could be used for a play area also came up during our consultations in preparing the Neighbourhood Plan. However, until now there were not the finances to fund such a project.

We were delighted and very grateful to receive a grant of £10k from the National Lottery's Awards for All scheme, which the Parish Council has matched to fund this project.

After a couple of years meeting with various play equipment contractors, and considering what would be the best use of the land, Play & Leisure were chosen to provide and install the equipment. Installation was originally postponed due to the first lockdown in March 2020, however we are very pleased with the finished result and hope residents really enjoy using it and making use of this piece of open space.

Chairman of the Parish Council, Cllr Brian Bath says:

"It’s been a long time coming, but we are delighted to have funded along with a National Lottery grant a play area for this part of the village. It was a great joy to walk through the site and see it being used by so many families from the surrounding estates."

Photos show the new play area, Cllr Mike Street, Cllr Brian Bath and Cllr Anita Armitt outside the play area, and some children enjoying using the equipment.
