Cheshire East Council Waste and recycling collections – COVID-related pressures

CEC are currently facing a number of issues which are placing increasing pressure on our ability to complete some recycling waste collection rounds, and our ability to return to collect bins that have been missed. This is due to factors including:

  • COVID-related staff sickness and self-isolation

  • The impact of a national shortage of HGV drivers

  • A large increase in the amount of waste produced by households since lockdown, which means waste vehicles are filling up more quickly and are having to make more frequent trips to empty their loads.

To try and reduce the impact on our residents, Ansa staff and colleagues from other service areas are being utilised when available and working on Saturdays to try and complete any outstanding work.

The best way for members and the public to log issues relating to waste collection and to keep up to date with the latest missed bin information is via the ‘Waste Watchers’ app, which links through to the Cheshire East website. The online webform can also be found here: https://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/waste_and_recycling/bins/recycling-and-bin-collections.aspx

For those customers unable to access the app or website directly, contact can be made with the waste team in the customer contact centre by calling: 0300 123 5011.
